One year after her revealing and candid interview with Access Hollywood, describing her struggles with addiction, bulimia and self-harm, the now 22 year old Demi Lovato is looking ahead and is excited about a new chapter in her life.
The always fashionable Allure magazine recently caught up with Lovato for a high-fashion photo shoot appearing in their most recent issue. The talented and business savvy songstress also sat down with Allure's, Danielle Pergament to discuss her latest endeavors, and reveals what has been the most rewarding part of her career thus far.
The incredible photos shot by Alexi Lubormirski, show a fierce and strong Lovato in a long strapless gown, thigh-high black laser cut boots, black gloves and an ear cuff by Alexis Bittar. Lovato wore very little makeup for the shoot, she didn't even wear foundation, so she looked very natural - you can even see her freckles. In a behind-the-scenes video for the shoot she says the secret to her gorgeous skin is that she follows a strict regimen. "I do have a regimen and I stick to it. No matter how tired I am, I always take my makeup off before I go to sleep. I always wash my face, use a toner, sometimes a serum if I need some extra love. Then I wear a really thick night cream and I just listen to my skin."
Lovato also admits to Allure in the behind-the-scenes video that her guilty pleasure is tweezing her eyebrows, and that she feels the most sexy when she wears clothes that showcase her "beautiful ASS-ets". Although she wasn't always so accepting of her body, Lovato says, "I really started to accept my body when the trend started becoming less about super, super skinny models. That was completely unattainable for anybody to have. Kim Kardashian, say whatever you want about her, but she has revolutionized what's accepted with curves nowadays." Lovato explains to Pergament, "I acknowledge the past. Yes, it happened, but I've told this story a million and one times. It's time for a new chapter in my life."
Lovato just recently launched her first skin care line, DEVONNE by Demi , which is deeply nourishing skin care made from high-quality, naturally derived ingredients to help you put your best face forward. A portion of the proceeds from every DEVONNE by Demi purchase will be donated to Demi's Lovato Treatment Scholarship, which provides expenses for people struggling with mental health and/or addiction issues. "Demi is proud to have re-written her own story - and hopes she can inspire others to do the same."
In Allure's behind-the-scenes video, Lovato reveals that her activism work has been the most rewarding thing that she has done so far, explaining, "I've learned to use my voice through other platforms, like mental health awareness. Things like that really are so much more fulfilling than just singing, just acting, just writing. There's so much more to life than that."
